Colombia’s Superintendency of Industry and Commerce’s umbrella includes antitrust, data and consumer protection, creating a trifurcated challenge when looking at digital platforms like Facebook, according to superintendent Andrés Barreto in PaRR’s 2019 Spring Video Series.  Barreto also weighed in on regional challenges created by under-developed competition law among countries in the Andean Community, such as when confidential information produced to the Ecuadorian authorities was shared with courts outside the jurisdiction.  “This, in the end, does not bring any legal security and poses a great threat on the effectiveness of our authority and the leniency program we implement in Colombia,” Barreto said.
